Vaccination Clinic: Due to lack of interest the Vaccination Clinic which was scheduled for Apr. 9, it has been cancelled.

Front Doors Locked: Recently we have seen more foot traffic than we are used to around the school on our streets. We have had no issues but for safety reasons in addition to other doors around campus we will now also have our front doors locked during the day. Visitors will have to buzz in and be allowed to enter the building. This is not uncommon for schools to do this and we feel it’s an appropriate measure to take. It might be inconvenient at first but over time it will become a good safety habit.

Volunteer Firemen’s Dinner: Please support our Charlo Volunteer Firemen on Apr. 13 from 4:30-7:00 for a tri tip roast dinner. There will be a live auction with raffle drawing to follow. That all starts at 7:15. All proceeds go to the Charlo Firemen. If you have questions contact Joel Fuhrman at 531-1315.

Question of the Week: How can the school justify buying a new bus but not justify inflation or cost of living increases for staff?

School finance is a very frustrating situation and at times defies common sense. The simple explanation is that a school district has several funds and not every fund can be used for just any expense. The main fund is called the General Fund which is where most expenses are paid out. Money cannot be saved from year to year in the General Fund. It must be spent out by June 30 of each year. In the case of purchasing school buses there is a separate fund which the schools can save money from year to year as their older buses depreciate. That fund can be built up over a period of time so a new school bus can be purchased. Money from that fund can only be spent on yellow school buses. Over the road travel coaches cannot be purchased nor can salaries be paid from that fund. It is strictly for yellow school buses. This is the law and the school has no control over its use. Therefore it’s conceivable for a school to have hundreds of thousands of dollars in the bus depreciation fund and unable to tap into that money for salaries, facilities, equipment, or improvements at school.

Bonfire Pit: Please do not dump your trash, old lumber, grass, brush, etc on the area the school traditionally uses for its bonfire in the fall. It has become an eye sore. It becomes dangerous not knowing exactly what has been dumped into it. Thank you for you cooperation.

Morning Drop-Off: Please do not drop off students near the JH doors or shop. That area gets congested with staff and school buses. Please just drop off students out front. Thank you!
