Ag Day! This past Tuesday was National Ag Day. Those of us lucky enough to reside in a rural community understand the importance of agriculture and we also know we cannot take it for granted. So to all of the farmers and ranchers out there: THANK YOU!

Attendance: Woody Allen said that “80% of success is showing up”. I have never seen a Woody Allen movie but he is definitely onto something. Students who miss less than 4 days per quarter are more likely to have passing grades. Students who miss less than 2 days per quarter are more likely to make the honor roll. As they say in sports: the best ability is availability. Education is a team effort. It takes parents/guardians and school staff (teachers, aides, administration, coaches, etc) working together. Attendance needs to be a priority for parents/guardians. If it’s not important to parents/guardians then it’s not important to students. Please help school staff set a good example. It is deflating for teachers/aides that work hard to prepare lessons for students only to have them miss school over and over. We understand that illness happens and we can work around illness. However, too many students are missing school for reasons other than illness. School only meets 4 days a week. School starts at 7:50 AM. Too many students come late which interrupts their learning. It also interrupts the learning of the students who do arrive on time. Every time a student walks in late the whole class is interrupted. Too many students leave early. We just ask that your family make school attendance a priority. If your student is missing less than twice per quarter then keep up the good work! If your student is missing less than 4 times per quarter then keep grinding it out and strive for improvement. If your student is missing more than 4 times per quarter please take a moment to reflect on why those absences are occurring. Please evaluate where changes might be made in the best interest of the student’s education. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Charlo Junior High Track Meet: Charlo will be hosting a junior high track meet on April 15. If you are able to help in any way, shape, or form please contact the office. It takes a lot of people to put on a successful track meet.

7th Grade Plant Sale: The 7th graders are selling plants again this Spring. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Petersen 644-2206 ext 223.

Student Driving: We have had multiple complaints by parents about students driving too fast and driving without licenses. If your son or daughter drives to school please talk to them about their driving. They need to slow down. They need to have a driver’s license. We will report any issues such as driving without a license, careless driving, or wreckless driving to the Lake County Sheriff. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Kindergarten Round-Up: We will be holding Kindergarten Round-Up on Apr. 1. Parents with school age students are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 644-2206 Ext229.

Non-Resident Student Applications: If you are not a resident in the Charlo School District and plan on requesting enrollment next year the applications are available in the office. Students must complete an application each year and they are due by July 1, 2023. Please call the school if you have any questions.
