State Legislature and Public Education: Just when you thought the dust had settled with the 2023 State Legislature something comes along to breathe life back into the politics. There were many bills passed by the legislature which dramatically affect public education. Depending on your perspective it can be good or bad. Recently, challenges were issued to the constitutionality of charter school bills. It is expected more challenges will be issued for other bills involving enrollment, special education, transgender issues, and school safety. Over the Summer, schools will be dealing with changes to law, policy changes, waiting on possible injunctions, and hoping courts will settle arguments as quickly as possible so they can conduct school business efficiently once the first day of class dawns. Until that time if you have questions please contact the office 644-2206 or email myself at [email protected].

Campus Construction: There is a lot of demolition and construction going on this Summer at the school so we request that everyone stay off the campus unless with coaches or school personnel. We are beginning to install new HVAC equipment in the elementary and high school buildings. There will be roofing repairs being made to the library and high school. There will be work to change our weight room area. A small addition will be added to the junior high in order to improve insulation as well as give us more storage. There will be lots of digging, there will be lots of old material laying around, and there will many different workers trying to focus on their jobs. We know that the play ground/outdoor basketball courts are popular places for students to play but please help us keep everyone safe by finding another place to recreate this Summer. If you have any questions please contact the office 644-2206.

Sports Physicals: It’s already time to think ahead to next year especially if you are going to participate in sports. All students must have a sports physical in order to play athletics next Fall. HS Sports begin Aug. 11, 2023. As in recent years, St. Luke Community Healthcare will donate $25 from each Well Child Check (with a sports physical) performed in the summer of 2023 to a student’s school athletic association or booster club. Last year, St. Luke performed 376 well child checks with sports physicals for local athletes and donated $9,400 to local schools districts in 2022. Appointments for well child checks can be made by calling any of our community clinics listed below. If you have any questions, please contact Whitney Liegakos, St. Luke PR Manager, at 406- 528-5262 or at [email protected].

Question of the Week: Will the HVAC project be complete by the time school starts?

As of right now we are on schedule with the HVAC project but anyone who has dealt with building or remodels knows that things come up. At this time we are confident school will start on time and if there are unforeseen hurdles that arise we will do our best to overcome them in a timely fashion.

If you have a question of the week please email it to [email protected].
